Fiction and Documentary Films from the Arab World
Welcome to the Arab Film Week
The 4th Arab Film Week focuses on independent cinema by showing works of a new generation of independent filmmakers from the Arab world.
This trend is not a reaction to the growing influence of the producers on the filmmakers as has happened in the Western world, but is caused mostly by recent technical advances in film production. Particularly the use of digital cameras does not just allow filmmakers to lower the cost of production as well as distribution but to work more and more outside the limitations of governmental censorship.
Here, independent films may include the cooperation of a European producer or European funding.
The Arab Film Week follows this trend and presents
six contemporary fiction and documentary films and a programme of Lebanese
experimental short films. Some films will have their German premieres.
The Film Week is as an initiative of
eurient
and a project of the German network of the
Anna Lindh Foundation
and will be shown in two German cities: in Leipzig and Weimar.
